Having seen Terry Teachout’s list, I was inspired to compile my own (in no particular order):
Chaired a World Science Fiction Convention
Received the Eucharist at a liturgy celebrated by the Ecumenical Patriarch
Flown in a four-seater airplane (not as the pilot, of course)
Ridden the Great South Pacific Express to Cairns
Played catch with a baseball autographed by Babe Ruth
- Slid several hundred feet down the side of Mount Rainier (no injuries)
Stepped off a moving train (injuries)
Seen one – and almost two – perfect games (Don Larsen’s on television in 1956, 7⅔ perfect innings by Mike Mussina at Camden Yards in 1998)
Recited “Casey at the Bat” on live television
Held in my hand a check for over $1 billion (twice – neither one payable to me)
Eaten braised lion
Been appointed to a position by John Kerry
Received a first day cover from the first U.S. commercial jet airplane flight
Gotten a strike the first time that I rolled a bowling ball
Freeloaded dinner off an AFL-CIO lobbyist
Tried (unsuccessfully) to keep up with Strom Thurmond as he sprinted across the Yale campus following a dinner at Mory’s
