David Frum says all that is necessary about David “Chocolate Oranges” Cameron, aspiring leader of the Other Labour Party:
In his speech today to the UK Conservative Conference, party leader David Cameron opposed reductions in taxation, endorsed same-sex marriage, praised government-controlled healthcare as “one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century,” omitted any words of praise for the British mission in Iraq, attacked Tony Blair for drawing too close to the United States, aligned himself with a more liberal approach to Britain’s surging crime rates, urged the Anglican Church to admit non-Anglicans to church schools while endorsing more state funding for Muslim schools.
Along the way he aimed this blow at Tony Blair:
Twelve years ago, there was an energetic young party leader.
He stood before his party conference for the first time.
He said he’d change his party.
He made promises about changing the country.
Remember him?
I do.
And look what happened.
Apparently that experience was so disappointing that Britain today requires something completely different: a listless, opportunistic young party leader who promises to change absolutely nothing.
