Joining the “57 states and one more to go”, the “president of Canada”, the “Austrian language” [see note] and so many more is what USA Today calls “an amusing slip of the tongue”:
Internationally, we’ve gone through a Teutonic shift in the Middle East that could have enormous ramifications for years to come.
If General Rommel couldn’t pull that off, I doubt that Angela Merkel has.
And if Vice President Quayle’s misspelling “potato” gave us insight into his fitness for office, shouldn’t the 44th President’s flashes of ignorance be more than merely “amusing”?
Note: To be fair, I think that “how you say it in Austrian” was a joke, but so was Dan Quayle’s reference to speaking Latin in Latin America.
Not to mention "corpseman."
