Of course I don’t know the Pakistani government’s real relationship to the execution of Osama bin-Laden, and, if I did know, I wouldn’t be allowed to tell you. In my blogger capacity, all that I can do is round up the possibilities and note why none of them can be right:
The Pakistani government fully supports the War on Terror and helped dispatch bin-Laden. Objection: Nobody believes this, not even the Pak diplomats who have to say it.
We have moles inside the Pak military and ISI who helped carry out the operation without regard to the wishes of their colleagues. Objection: It would take a lot of moles to cause Pakistan’s “West Point” to look the other way as “unidentified” helicopters flew into its air space.
We have stealth helicopters that can slip undetected into urban areas. Objection: Helicopters fly slowly and are visible from the ground. In fact, the neighbor who live-tweeted the raid saw them hovering. A “stealth” helicopter is about like an invisible man.
The Pak military are utterly incompetent. Objection: That incompetent? They can’t detect helicopters over their territory?
Regardless of what anybody else in the country thinks, Pak troops weren’t willing to shoot down American choppers. Objection: Why not? We aren’t going to disclose a failed operation or lob nukes at Islamabad in retaliation for resistance that we can’t acknowledge exists.
That brings us to fantasies found only into espionage novels,
Osama bin-Laden turned his coat a while ago, his colleagues have found out, and this was an extraction operation. He’s now alive and well in a safe house on the Riviera.
The U.S. had nothing to do with it. Osama’s enemies in the Islamofascist movement took him out, then tipped off the U.S. government so that it would take the “credit” and keep the real executioners from being reviled by fans of the deceased.
Osama bin-Laden died years ago, the U.S. has been keeping up the pretense that he’s alive in order to have an excuse for continuing the War on Terror, and President Obama, wanting to concentrate 100 percent on destroying American medicine, staged a phony raid to improve his standing in the polls and bring the charade to an end. There was no body and no photograph, so of course we aren’t able to see them.
As I said, every imaginable theory has to be wrong. It’s disconcerting that the ones worthy of Clive Cussler aren’t much less plausible than the sober alternatives.
