Vijaya Gadde is Twitter’s Chief Legal Officer. Her remit includes “content moderation”, that is, decisions about whom Twitter should censor and how. Shortly after Elon Musk’s deal to buy the company was finalized, she called a meeting of the policy and legal staff. According to Politico –
Gadde cried during the meeting as she expressed concerns about how the company could change, according to three people familiar with the meeting. She acknowledged that there are significant uncertainties about what the company will look like under Musk’s leadership.
Twitter spokesperson Trenton Kennedy said Gadde became emotional when discussing her team’s impact and the pride she feels in them.
Sources confirmed that she spoke at length about how she is proud of the work her team has done and offered employees encouragement, urging them to keep striving to do good work at the company.
Miss Gadde’s “good work” included suppressing the New York Post’s reports on Hunter Biden’s incriminating laptop and canceling the account of the Babylon Bee for the crime of satire. We can be pretty sure that the point of her tearful exhortation was to encourage employees who remain with Twitter post-takeover to continue doing exactly what they do now. After all, Elon Musk has a space program to run; he won’t have time to check up on every locked account.
As for the Chief Legal Officer herself, firing her will cost the company a reported $12.5 million in severance pay. It will be a sum well spent.
